Laptops

I have suggested throughout my site that building your own computer and doing your own upgrades and repairs for your computer is always the cheapest and most economical way to go; however when it comes to laptop computers or notebook computers and other portable computers I have a different opinion.

Laptops you probably already know are much smaller in size than a desktop computer or a PC and more efficient than a desktop computer. This is the reason why many people prefer a laptop computer over a desktop computer, however, it's also why they carry a somewhat more of an expensive price tag. Laptop computers still have a hard drive, motherboard, CPU, memory, CD rom, network cards, video cards, sound cards and other computer parts; however, they are all usually smaller in size than a PC.

Because of the smaller nature of a laptop they are much more difficult to work with than a PC. Laptop computers have much smaller parts and working with the inside of a laptop is much more tedious than working with a PC.

Some basic repairs and upgrades are still simple to perform but most upgrades and repairs I am going to suggest you let a professional handle. It's much more difficult to get inside a laptop than a PC because of their compact nature. There are often many screws holding the case together where as with a PC if there are any screws it's usually only a few you have to remove to open the case. And getting the laptop back together once you are finished can be a trick too.

Once inside parts are smaller and harder to access than with a PC and getting to them often requires the removal of other parts that you aren't replacing. My best advice is to always consult a professional when upgrading and replacing parts in your laptop.

What about building your own laptop computer? Well, I'm not going to say it's impossible, but I've never built my own laptop computer. When it comes to a laptop I will always suggest not doing the work yourself. Many online computer part stores offer great deals on laptops and it's very simple to customize your laptop to fit your needs. Prices are very competitive and sometimes you can find a great deal under $500. One of the most reputable companies that I have personal experience with is Dell. They always have great deals on laptops and have excellent customer service! ( 20% off select Inspiron™ E1705 notebooks! )

If you decide to purchase a laptop computer what are the best brands of laptop computers? Well what I'm about to tell you is only my opinion and it's based on the opinions of my friends and my personal experience. Soon I hope to get a review section for laptop and PC computers where everyone can express their own views.

With any laptop computer purchase obviously the more money you want to spend the better quality computer you will get. Anyway, here are my opinions of the best brands of laptop computers and a brief explanation of each.

Dell - Great quality computer and usually very competitive prices. They have a wide variety models to choose from and are very portable. I have also had good experiences with Dell customer support. Probably my top choice for quality/price.

Toshiba - Great quality computer but carries a little higher price tag than Dell. There are many models to choose from so anyone can find a computer that fits their budget/needs. Toshiba computer are especially recommended for frequent travelers.

HP - Good quality computer and a good price. Probably my least favorite of the three but it's still one of my top three choices. Again there are different models to choose from including the Omnibook which is a great desktop computer replacement. Many college students prefer this laptop because of it's versatile nature.
