How to choose the right sound card

Find a sound card

A sound card is specially designed to control what you hear coming from your personal computer. Your computer speakers connect directly to your sound card and is located in the back of the computer. Many motherboards are equipped with "on board" sound cards however, for those computer users who demand high quality 3D sound from videos and computer games, an "on board" sound card will not suffice. A higher quality sound card is a must have for these levels of audio performance. A high quality sound card will produce crystal clear audio from multiple directions and allows realistic recreations of sound traveling around or through obstacles. Unlike surround sound 3D sound can change based on the listeners reactions. You can find both analog and digital sound cards.

You can spend hundreds of dollars when purchasing a soundcard for your computer so do some research before making the purchase. The first step to consider is defining your purpose for purchasing a new high end sound card, this will make the buying process much easier.

There are many different brands of sound cards to consider when making a purchase. Some common brand names include: Montego DDL, Creative Labs, Sabrent, Diamond, Auzentech, PPA, AOpen, toshiba sound card, Alpha Omega, Diablotek Crystal Relitic, Inland, and SIIG. There are also different types of sound cards that can perform different functions. There are simple sound cards as I mentioned earlier that are built into the motherboard, some of which are good quality and more than enough audio power to satisfy the common computer user. There are also sound cards that produce digital 3D sound to take care of the audio hungry computer users. Prices on sound cards can range from under $10 to over $200!

Just to give you an example of the number of different brand/types of sound cards I want to list a few. This is only a small fraction of the cards available for purchase.
