replace a cpu or install a new cpu

Before you start you should first read about what a cpu is and how it functions in your computer. Please read our article cpu then return here to learn how to change or install a cpu into your computer system.

There are many different types of motherboards and sometimes even the most experienced computer experts will have trouble finding the right motherboard that will fit in a particular case or finding the right processor to fit into the processor slot on the motherboard.

Below is what a typical motherboard will look like in a computer. Some parts will vary depending on the age of the computer system and the model and brand of computer you have purchased. The basic layout of the motherboard will still be similar in appearance.

My best suggestion when replacing a motherboard for your computer you should always check with the company you are purchasing the motherboard from to ensure that the new motherboard will fit properly into your case and that the process you have will fit back into the motherboard.

Once you are sure you have the correct motherboard here are the steps you should follow to replace an existing motherboard. Make sure the power cable has been disconnected from the computer and all power is shut off. Make sure you are properly grounded and have no electronic charge in your body. Open the case to the computer and examine the layout of the computer system. In order to remove the motherboard you will have to disconnect every cable from the motherboard. It is a good idea to label each connection so that when you reattach the cables you won't have trouble remembering where each cable is connected. Don't forget to remove the processor and fan, and memory or RAM from the motherboard and also any video cards, sound cards, network cards, that are not "on board" equipment.

Once all computer parts are removed and all cables are disconnected and properly labeled you will need to unscrew the motherboard from the case. There will be multiple screws holding the motherboard in place so make sure you get them all unscrewed before attempting to remove the motherboard. You shouldn't have to use force to remove the motherboard, if all screws are removed the motherboard should easily lift off the case. Now replace with the new motherboard and install all the cards, memory and cables back to the new motherboard.

Replace the case cover to the system, power the system back up and let the bios find the new motherboard. Your system should be ready to go!
The same steps will be used to install a new motherboard only you will not have to unhook all the parts form the existing motherboard.
